  The Wellington Monument

The Wellington Monument is the second tallest obelisk (a tall, four-sided shaft of stone that rises to a pointed pyramidal top) in the world, after the one in Washington DC. It is named after the Duke of Wellington and shows some of his great battles and conquests, including the victory at Waterloo in 1815 when Napoleon finally surrendered.
